Geogrid adalah bahan geosynthetic yang berfungsi sebagai lapisan perkuatan jalan, lereng, dll, geogrid memiliki kuat tarikan yang besar hingga 180 kN, bahan geosynthetik ini baik dipasang untuk pengerjaan jalan yang memiliki lapisan tanah dasar rendah dibawah 2%, contohnya di gunakan pada jalan raya yang berada pada struktur tanah yang kurang baik contohya jalan yang berlubang. Produk ini telah umum digunakan selama lebih dari 25 tahun.
Geogrid memang sangat bermanfaat sekali untuk perkuatan tanah dan pengerjaan konstruksi jadi lebih maximal untuk perkuatan tanah dan hasilnya jadi lebih baik, ada tiga macam bentuk geogrid berikut:
Geogrid Uniaxial
Dapat memberikan perkuatan pada sistem slope reinforcement (Perkuatan Lereng) sehingga dapat membangun lebih tinggi dan lebih tegak pada area terbatas. Biasanya digunakan pada aplikasi perkuatan tanah, dinding penahan tanah, stabilisasi lereng dan timbunan diatas tanah lunak.
Geogrid Biaxial
Yaitu jenis Geogrid yang digunakan sebagai bahan stabilisasi atau perkuatan pada tanah dasar yang lunak, seperti pada daerah rawa, berlumpur dan gambut. Cara kerja Geogrid Biaxial adalah interlocking (mengunci agregat) sehingga lapisan timbunan yang ada di atasnya lebih kaku sehingga distribusi beban menjadi lebih merata. Fungsi Geogrid Biaxial adalah mencegah terjadinya differential settlement (penurunan setempat) sehingga mereduksi biaya pemeliharaan. Geogrid tipe ini juga dapat mereduksi tebal base atau sub base sampai dengan 60% sehingga menghemat biaya pelaksanaan proyek.
Geogrid Triaxial
Adalah pengembangan terbaru dari Geogrid Biaxial yang lebih disempurnakan sehingga inerja dan performanya lebih baik. Sama seperti Biaxial, Geogrid Triaxial berfungsi sebagai bahan stabilisasi atau perkuatan tanah dasar lunak seperti rawa, berlupur dan gambut. Dengan bentuk bukaan segitiga, Geogrid Triaxial mempunyai metode kerja interlocking yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan Geogrid Biaxial pendahulunya, sehingga distribusi beban pun lebih merata
A geogrid is geosynthetic material used to reinforce soils and similar materials. Geogrids are commonly used to reinforce retaining walls, as well as subbases or subsoils below roads or structures. Soils pull apart under tension. Compared to soil, geogrids are strong in tension. This fact allows them to transfer forces to a larger area of soil than would otherwise be the case.[2]
Geogrids are commonly made of polymer materials, such as polyester, polyethylene or polyproylene. They may be wovern or knitted from yarns, heat-welded from strips of material, or produced by punching a regular pattern of holes in sheets of material, then stretched into a grid.
The development of methods of preparing relatively rigid polymeric materials by tensile drawing,[3] in a sense "cold working," raised the possibility that such materials could be used in the reinforcement of soils for walls, steep slopes, roadway bases and foundation soils. Used as such, the major function of the resulting geogrids is in the area of reinforcement. This area, as with many other geosynthetics, is very active, with a number of different products, materials, configurations, etc., making up today's geogrid market. The key feature of all geogrids is that the openings between the adjacent sets of longitudinal and transverse ribs, called “apertures,” are large enough to allow for soil strike-through from one side of the geogrid to the other. The ribs of some geogrids are often quite stiff compared to the fibers of geotextiles. As discussed later, not only is rib strength important, but junction strength is also important. The reason for this is that in anchorage situations the soil strike-through within the apertures bears against the transverse ribs, which transmits the load to the longitudinal ribs via the junctions. The junctions are, of course, where the longitudinal and transverse ribs meet and are connected. They are sometimes called “nodes”.
